An entity trusted to register other entities in applying for certificate and revoking their certificates. The authority may assign each applicant a relative distinguished value or name for the new certificate applied.
An entity that performs services in relation to registration and verification of the identity of applicants for public key certificates, as described in the Registration Authority accreditation criteria.
An individual or group of people appointed by an organisation that is responsible for Identification and Authentication of certificate subscribers, but that does not sign or issue certificates (i.e. an RA is delegated certain tasks on behalf of a CA).
RA) An optional entity given responsibility for performing some of the administrative tasks necessary in the registration of subjects, such as: confirming the subject's identity; validating that the subject is entitled to have the values requested in a Public Key Certificate and verifying that the subject has possession of the private key associated with the public key requested for a Public Key Certificate.
An entity trusted by a Certification Authority and appointed to assist the Certification Authority and its Customers in the I&A process, Certificate issuance and Revocation processes. (See Certification Authority, Customer, Identification and Authentication, Issue Certificates.)
