Definitions for "PTA"
Preferential Trade Agrement. Because FTAs can have the effect of reducing the preferences that non members enjoy, thereby actually reducing their access to the market, some trade analysts prefer to refer to FTAs as PTAs, arguing that FTAs aren't always freerer.

pure tone average. Computed by averaging the thresholds in each ear at 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz or in the case of a high frequency hearing loss, 500 and 1000 Hz may be used.
pure tone average. The average of a person's thresholds (in dB HL) at 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz (i.e., Hertz, a unit of sound). Often used to classify the severity of a hearing loss from mild to profound.
Pure Tone Average. The average of the air-conduction thresholds of the three middle frequencies, usually 500 Hz, 1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz. For flat or gently-sloping shaped hearing losses the Pure Tone Average often correlates with the Speech Reception Threshold. Sometimes the average includes other combinations of frequencies (i.e., a high frequency average may include 3000 Hz or 4000 Hz).
is the period between the injury and regaining day-to-day memory so that the patient knows where he is, what happened to him, etc. It includes the period of coma. In some cases there is long PTA (suggesting severe injury) while the Glasgow Coma Scale score was never particularly low (suggesting the injury was not severe). In these circumstances, PTA is generally the preferred index as there is a group of head injured patients with severe injury and poor outcome who have long PTA but whose GCS is never low. The significance of PTA duration may be gauged in broad terms by the following summary
Post Traumatic Amnesia. A period of hours, weeks, days or months after the injury when the patient exhibits a loss of day-to-day memory. The patient is unable to store new information and therefore has a decreased ability to learn. Memory of the PTA period is never stored, therefore things that happened during that period cannot be recalled. May also be called Anterograde Amnesia.
