In development a parent cell that gives rise to a single cell lineage by a series of mitotic cell divisions.
Specific healthy cells within a patient's own organ (or tissue or blood) that are capable of maturing into specific tissues and regenerating the organ (or tissue). These cells are committed to become a certain cell type (like a bladder cell), and they retain their ability to regenerate. Tengion is the first company to demonstrate an ability to identify and expand these cells consistently across a variety of tissues and organs and to unlock these cells' potential.
Cells that can differentiate into mature cells, but which lack the capacity to self-renew. Progenitor cells are derived from stem cells and are intermediate to the production of mature cells.
