The act of addressing supplication to a divinity, especially to the true God; the offering of adoration, confession, supplication, and thanksgiving to the Supreme Being; as, public prayer; secret prayer.
The act of attempting to verbally communicate with the supernatural. It is found in almost all the religions of the world. It is sometimes communal, as during a church service; it is sometimes done in private. Its purpose within Christianity is to assess the will of God for one's life, to praise God, to give thanks to God, to repent of sinful behavior, to ask forgiveness, to seek a favor from God, and (occasionally) to ask God to curse an opponent. Prayer is found in almost all religions.
Prayer can be best understood as an inner movement of spiritual attention and communication directed towards God. Understood in this way, prayer is the gathering of our awareness before the Presence of God in which a dialogue, heart to heart and spirit to Spirit occurs. Modes and means for this communication include human language, the analogical imagination, centering prayer, silence, single-pointed awareness and the expansion of consciousness as the multiple coordinates of our being are focused upon the Divine Reality.

a bouncy jazz-pop number that's catchy and makes great use of an echoey slide guitar in the background - heck, the way the jerky drums, the syncopated synth riffs, the jangly acoustic guitars and the vocal harmonies bounce off each other is marvelous
1. The act of speaking to one's Higher Power, God as we might understand Him, usually done silently and privately to seek strength, guidance, and an understanding of our role. 2. Speaking or communication with our own Higher Power. 3. Some of us choose to pray in a conversational manner. We just have a little chat with our Higher Power.
Communion with God through words of praise, thanksgiving, repentance, supplication, and intercession. Prayer is "raising up the heart and mind to God" (St. John of Damascus). Usually prayer is verbal. However, prayer of the heart or in the Spirit, the highest form of prayer, is without words. See Matt. 6:5-13; 21:22; Rom. 8:26; Phil. 4:6; 1 Thess. 5:17.
Communion between God and man, which always takes the place within our own mind. By affirming the Truth about God and ourselves we align our minds with God mind to bring the Truth into our consciousness.
The concept of prayer depends on the belief in a personal God who wishes to sustain and develop a loving relationship with his people. The practice of prayer may involve meditation, adoration, confession, thanksgiving and supplication. Basically it is a conversation with the Almighty and is dependent on both parties wanting to cherish a relationship and be empowered to effect change in a fallen world. Intercessory prayer is perhaps the most popular form and many churches and cathedrals have found that in recent years intercessory prayers associated with the lighting of votive candles have become a widespread practice. Prayer aids such as the rosary have recently become popular as way of ordering or disciplining prayer life.
you, as Divine Consciousness, pray yourself into Being; into manifestation. You, as self, receive the prayers of the Divine and translate them into words, song, sound. Listen to the prayer that God is praying for you. When you pray for others, hold the loving space for them to awaken to the prayer that Divine Consciousness is praying for them. Prayer is awaiting everyone in their Heart.

"For my highest good" is the most effective prayer for oneself, too.
