The estimated population is the calculated number of people living in an area as of July 1. The estimated population is calculated from a components of change model that incorporates information on natural change (births, deaths) and net migration (net internal migration, net international migration) that has occurred in an area since a Census 2000 reference date.
An approximation of the population of a geographic unit at a point in the past or present for which an actual population count is not available.
An estimate of the number of people in the New Zealand population who have a particular characteristic (for example, a mobility disability) derived from data obtained from the 1996 or 2001 Household Disability Survey and the 1997 or 2001 Disability Survey of Residential Facilities.
