This disease is an inherited kidney disease that has been found in Persian cats. Polycystic disease is a disease that shows up later in life (late onset) with enlarged kidneys and kidney dysfunction occurring between three and 10 years of age (on average at seven years of age). The condition is inherited and cysts are present from birth, but are smaller in younger animals.
A hereditary disease in which cysts are formed in the kidneys. The cysts get larger with time and gradually squeeze out normal tissue until the kidneys slowly lose the ability to function.
kidney disease characterized by enlarged kidneys containing many cysts; often leads to kidney failure
Slowly progressive kidney disease resulting in multiple cysts in the kidneys, autosomal dominant inheritance in Persian cats
Hereditary disease involving growth of cysts on kidney tissue.
A rare inherited condition in which the kidney are composed of multiple cysts. Kidney cysts are associated with an increased incidence of cerebral aneurysm. Symptoms usually appear later (if they do at all) and include blood in the urine, flank pain, excessive urination at night and abdominal pain. Individuals may also have elevated blood pressure. Chronic (end-stage renal disease) renal failure is the most common result in the 5th to 6th decades of life.
a disease which runs in families and due to a problem in kidney development which leads to enlarged kidneys full of fluid filled sacs (cysts). It does not always lead to kidney failure. See also: Specific kidney disorders
An inherited disease found in Persian cats between 3 and 10 years old, PKD causes enlarged kidneys and kidney dysfunction. Cyst size varies from less than 1 mm to more than 1 cm. Problems start when the cysts grow and progressively enlarge the kidneys, reducing their ability to function properly. Symptoms include: depression, lack of or reduced appetite, excessive thirst, urination and weight loss. Ultrasound or radiography is used to diagnose PKD.
An inherited disease causing the growth of multiple large cysts on the kidneys and leading to end-stage renal disease: It is the most common life-threatening genetic disease in the United States.
a genetic disorder characterized by the growth of numerous cysts filled with fluid in the kidneys.
Also referred to as ADPKD. An inherited disorder characterized by many grape-like clusters of fluid-filled cysts that make both kidneys larger over time. These cysts take over and destroy working kidney tissue. ADPKD may cause chronic renal failure and end-stage renal disease.
Polycystic kidney disease is a rare inherited genetic disorder causing multiple cysts in the kidneys. This disease is closely related to TSC.
Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is a progressive, genetic disorder of the kidneys. It occurs in humans and other organisms. PKD is characterised by the presence of multiple cysts (polycystic) in both kidneys.
