A string for testing the verticality of a line.
This is a straight line formed by a string attached to a hanging weight. It establishes a vertical line which is straight up and down. In medicine, one uses a plumb line to make sure that the spine is straight. If the spine is not straight, it is called an “offset from the plumb line.
a cord from which a metal weight is suspended pointing directly to the earth's center of gravity; used to determine the vertical from a given point
a construction worker's tool consisting of a weight attached to a string
a length of rope from which a metal weight is suspended on the bottom end
a light line with a weight (plumb bob) at one end that, when suspended next to a workpiece, defines a vertical line
a piece of string with a small weight on the end
A piece of string weighted at one end, to test whether something is exactly vertical or, using the fact that all plumb lines hang vertically, to measure an angle from it. (See also lead line)
A vertical guideline (sometimes called a level line) necessary when hanging wallpaper; a length of string is usually coated with chalk to which a weight is attached; when the string is snapped, the chalk leaves a straight line on the wall. A level can also be used to achieve the same results by tracing with a pencil on the correctly positioned level.
A string or cord with a weight at one end that is used to determine a vertical line.
A tool used to drop a perpendicular line on a wall to aid in hanging a strip of wallcovering vertically.
A long piece of string or cord with a weight on one end. Used for lining up verticals.
is a line (as of cord) that has at one end a weight (as a plumb bob) and is used especially to determine verticality.
a suspended thread with a weight at its end, indicating the vertical.
A long string weighted at one end with a metal plumb bob, used to determine true vertical lines.
String line that holds the lead weight and which hangs freely and swings to allow gravity to force the cord to hang in an absolute vertical.
