Loosely, vermin that feed on plants, and often transmit disease. Any insect or animal which is detrimental to the health and well being of plants or other animals.

Creatures, often insects, that humans consider harmful. Bugs that compete with farmers for their crops are invariably called "pests." (The bugs probably have the same feelings about farmers.)
