Definitions for "Pesticide resistance"
the genetically acquired ability of an organism to survive a pesticide application at doses that once killed most individuals of the same species.
The development or selection of heritable traits (genes) in a pest population that allow individuals expressing the trait to survive in the presence of levels of a pesticide (biological or chemical control agent) that would otherwise debilitate or kill this pest. The presence of such resistant pests makes the pesticide less useful for managing pest populations.
A genetic change in response to selection by a pesticide resulting in the development of strains capable of surviving a dose lethal to a majority individuals in a normal population. Resistance may develop in insects, weeds, or pathogens.
