The north shore of Lake Superior, running north and east from Duluth in the south to Grand Portage on the Pigeon River and Canadian border to the north. Much of the geological structure of the area is made up of Keweenawan lava flows and intrusives which create the many waterfalls for which the North Shore is known as well as some spectacular cliffs and headlands. The North Shore (or Northern Suburbs) is a general term used to describe the metropolitan area of northern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It usually refers to the suburbs located on the north shore of Sydney Harbour between Middle Harbour and the Lane Cove River but is often used as a description for the whole northern district.
