The part of an internet address which designates the network to which the addressed node belongs.

In the Macintosh environment, the routing address or range of addresses assigned to the physical network that AppleTalk Phase 2 routers use to direct information to the appropriate network. Network number is also called network range and cable range.
Network address. A unique identifying number that a network administrator assigns to each separate attached network during installation of each file server or other networked device.
