A clear, flexible polyester film widely used as a base for computer magnetic tape, and for film ribbons used with office machines. It is also used in phototypesetting and offset preparation because it exhibits the mechanical strength and dimensional stability needed for stripping positives. Mylar is used as the carrier for the emulsion in negative film, as a laminate for labels, and as a reinforcement on index tabs.
A transparent plastic sheet used for registration of the print or as a surface for an image to be drawn on in order to transfer the drawing to the plate photographically. Mylar is specifically used for these purposes because it is dimensionally stable, not stretching or shrinking when exposed to water.

Polyester film is a staple of multi-layer packaging for a wide variety of applications. Y - Nylon - Polyamide resins, with very high melting points, excellent clarity and stiffness. Two types are used for films - nylon-6 and nylon-66. The latter has much higher melt temperature, thus better temperature resistance, but the former is easier to process, and it is cheaper. Both have good oxygen and aroma barrier properties, but they are poor barriers to water vapour. Also, nylon films can be cast (see CAN), or oriented, (see BON). pacity - Hiding power of pigmented (mostly white) plastic films. It is beneficial for packing materials sensitive to light (visible or ultraviolet).

A laminated film which is strong and very low in stretch. Used for reinforcements and on its own in areas of the sail needing more stiffness.
A stable polyester film used as a base for film mounting or a grid for mounting perforating and scoring rules.
A polyester film specially suitable for its mechanical strength and dimensional stability. Provided in varying thicknesses.
A plastic film which, when present on the tab extension or binding edge, greatly extends the life of the piece. Mylar® comes in many colors. Print can easily be read through the colored Mylar®. When applied to the binding edge, this is usually referred to as reinforcing, strengthening the drill holes. Reinforcing tape is available in clear and gold.
