(See MIDI) Mute Switch - A switch or control used to turn off or silence an input channel, tape track, etc.
(MIDI) A standard used in the music industry for interfacing digital musical instruments.
n. A protocol that allows a synthesizer to send signals to another synthesizer or to a computer, or a computer to a musical instrument, or a computer to another computer.
A technology for connecting electronic music instruments and computers. The information that passes between MIDI devices is a condensed description of the composition. On playback, MIDI controls the generation of sound on a synthesizer.
A standard protocol for sending audio data and commands to digital devices.
a standard protocol for communication between electronic musical instruments and computers
A connection of electronic instruments. Basically, it’s a digital sound file that can read electronic notes to play music.
A connectivity standard which enables you to hook together computers, musical instruments, and synthesizers to make and orchestrate digital sound. Pronounced "middy," the term is used to describe the standard itself, the hardware that supports the standard, and files that store information that the hardware can use. MIDI files are like digital sheet music--they contain instructions for musical notes, tempo, and instrumentation--and are widely used in game soundtracks and recording studios. MIDI sound files usually have an extension of .mid. If you come across any of these files on the Internet you will need a helper application configured to work on your system in order to play one of these sound files. MIDI files are just one of a few different file formats which can be embedded on a Web page with the BG SOUND= HTML tag, which causes the sound file to play when the Web page is accessed. A specification of the MIDI Manufacturers Association (MMA). The specification defines a protocol for describing music data, such as note on and note off messages; a file format for storing music data, called Standard MIDI; and a standard hardware interface. National Television Standards Committee (NTSC) The dominant television standard in the United States and Japan. NTSC delivers 30 interlaced frames per second at 525 lines of resolution.
is a standard control language that is used for communication between electronic music and effects devices.
A serial interface standard that allows for the connection of music synthesizers, musical instruments, and computers. The MIDI standard is based partly on hardware and partly on a description of the way in which music and sound are encoded and communicated between MIDI devices. The information transmitted between MIDI devices is in a form called a MIDI message, which encodes aspects of sound, such as pitch and volume, as 8-bit bytes of digital information. MIDI devices can be used for creating, recording, and playing back music. Using MIDI, computers, synthesizers, and sequencers can communicate with each other, either keeping time or actually controlling the music created by other connected equipment. See also: MIDI setup
