Definitions for "Microcontrollers"
An MCU is a digital integrated circuit (IC) designed for standalone operation that includes a programmable processing unit, programme memory, read/write data memory, and input/out capability. The MCUs functions are determined by fetching and executing instructions and manipulating data held in on-chip programme and data memory. MCU devices must be available with on-chip programme store (ROM, EPROM-erasable, programmable read-only memory, and flash, typically ranging from 1Kb-256Kb. MCUs are classified as 4-bit, 8-bit, 16-bit or 32-bit word width.
Similar to microprocessor, but dealing with a simpler information set.
