the second (middle) segment of the thorax from the head, abbreviated as T2.
The middle, normally largest segment of the thorax, which bears the second pair of legs and the first pair of wings of those chalcids with wings. [drawing

the second or middle thoracic segment which bears the middle legs and the anterior wings. See mesothorax and prothorax. View image
The second and largest of the three primary subdivisions of the thorax, bearing the middle pair of legs and, when present, the forewings.
This is the middle segment of the thorax. It has one pair of wings and one pair of legs.
The mesothorax is the middle of the three segments in the thorax of an insect, and bears the second pair of legs. Its principal sclerites (exoskeletal plates) are the mesonotum (dorsal), the mesosternum (ventral), and the mesopleuron (lateral) on each side. The mesothorax is the segment that bears the forewings in all winged insects, though sometimes these may be reduced or modified, as in beetles (Coleoptera) or Dermaptera, in which they are sclerotized to form the elytra ("wing covers"), and the Strepsiptera, in which they are reduced to form halteres.
