The midbrain, one of three primitive cerebral sacs from which develop the copora quadrigemina, the crura cerebri, and the aqueduct of Sylvius.
The midbrain; the region between the diencephalon and pons.

(Gr. mesos, middle; enkephalos, brain): The middle of the three primary brain vesicles in the embryonic brain. The adult derivative of which is the midbrain which is located between the diencephalon and the pons.

The midbrain; part of the brainstem. Composed of the tectum, which comprises the superior and inferior colliculi, and the tegmentum, which comprises the peri-aqueductal grey, the substantia nigra, and the red nucleus.
The mesencephalon joins the metencephalon away from you. At about the point of juncture nerve III, the motor oculomotor nerve to some of the eye muscles can be seen reaching away from you. These nerves emerge from ventral swellings (floor of mesencephalon) which are called motor nuclei.
In biological anatomy, the mesencephalon (or midbrain) is the middle of three vesicles that arise from the neural tube that forms the brain of developing animals. Caudally the mesencephalon adjoins the pons and rostrally it adjoins the diencephalon.
