Cotton yarns that have been specially treated to increase strength, smoothness and luster.
A treatment of fine cotton yarn or fabric that increases shine, luster and strength. Its ability to absorb dyes produces vibrant colors ( click here for more info).
of cotton thread that has been treated with sodium hydroxide to shrink it and increase its luster and affinity for dye; "mercerized cotton"
A treatment of cotton yarn or fabric to increase its luster. The material is immersed under tension in a cold solution, and later neutralized in acid. The process causes permanent “swelling” of the fiber and thus, increases the luster.
Fabric or yarns that have been finished with a cold solution which results in stronger yarns, a greater affinity for dyes and increased luster. Most often cotton.
A cotton yarn which has been treated with a solution of caustic under conditions of caustic concentration and temperature which effect a permanent or irreversible swelling of the cellulose.
Cotton thread whose strength and sheen have been enhanced by treating with alkali under pressure.
A process to a cotton yarn or fabric which increases its luster, shine and affinity for color dye.
Treated cotton, smooth and silky to the touch.
Cotton treatment of cotton thread which consists of immersing the yarn in a solution of sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) for short periods of time, while held under tension. The yarn is then stronger and more lustrous and takes the dye better with brighter, deeper colors. This effect of caustic soda on cotton was discovered in 1844 by John Mercer, an English calico printer and his name gave the process the name "mercerize".
Cotton thread whose strength and gloss has been increased by treating with alkali under pressure.
