The barquentine Mercator lies at anchor in Ostend, Belgium. She was named after Gerardus Mercator (1512-1594), Flemish cartographer. She was designed by the Antarctic explorer Adrien de Gerlache (1866-1934) as a training ship for the Belgian merchant fleet.
Mercator is a lunar crater that is located on the southwest edge of Mare Nubium, in the southwest part of the Moon. It is located to the southeast of Campanus crater, and the two are separated by a narrow, winding valley.
