A method of holding a deck of cards to allow any of the crooked deals to take place. The cheat who specializes in the use of crooked deals is called a card mechanic, therefore the grip in which the deck is held by a card mechanic is called the mechanic's grip. See chapter Crooked Deals.
A certain way in which a mechanic will hold the deck of cards when dealing. If the dealer is right handed then they will place the deck in their left hand. Then the mechanic will place their thumb on the left side of the deck, their forefinger (pointer finger) on the top, and the remaining three fingers on the right side of the deck. When the deck is placed in someones hand like this is makes it very possible to deal cards from the top, bottom, or middle of the deck.
