Originally, Maeve was a goddess who symbolised Mother Earth. The king had to married her to be allowed to reign. She was too the queen of Connacht, Aillil’s wife. When she discovered that her possessions were lesser than her husband’s one, she robbed the brawn bull of Cuailgue, in Ulster. During this battle, Cuchulainn died.
