or lymphatic system, is a system of channels (a bit like blood vessels) that carry excess fluid away from the tissues and back into the blood. Along the way are series of lymph nodes which are where adaptive immune responses are initiated (ie. involving antibodies). During infection the lymph nodes become enlarged and sore because of the rapid accumulation of dividing lymphocytes.
