laser treatment for myopia ( using alcohol )
The acronym for laser epithelial keratomileusis. Also called epithelial LASIK, it is a variation of PRK and can be used for people who have corneas that are too thin or too flat for LASIK.
LASEK is a variation of LASIK that involves the creation of a thin epithelial flap with an alcohol solution, rather than the thicker corneal flap created with a microkeratome during the LASIK procedure.
Abbreviation for laser epithelium keratomileusis
Laser Epithelial Keratomileusis; a variation of refractive surgery in which the corneal epithelium is slid back prior to laser treatment and then repositioned after the treatment
(Laser Epithelial Keratomileusis) Procedure that is similar to LASIK, except that the surgeon cuts a flap in the epithelium only, instead of through the epithelium and part of the stroma. LASEK is used mostly for people with thin or flat corneas who are poor candidates for LASIK, which requires more corneal tissue for success.
An acronym for Laser Assisted sub-Epithelial Keratectomy, a refractive surgical procedure similar to PRK, where the surface cells (epithelium) of the cornea are removed prior to laser treatment. Then the laser reshapes the cornea to improve vision. Once the laser ablation is completed, the surface cells are replaced over the reshaped area.
Laser Epithelial Keratomilieusis. Similar to LASIK in all respects except that it removes only the corneal epithelium, and no surgical incision is made. Good option for patients with thin corneas.
Patients with thinner corneas might be better off with a procedure other than LASIK. A procedure which does not create a flap would give us more cornea to work with, to enable a more complete correction and/or a bigger treatment zone diameter.
