Definitions for "JAMBS"
The finish boards at the sides of a doorway or window which cover the rough opening.
The upright framing on each side of the door opening. When wood jambs are specified, the vertical track is mounted to the inside surface of the jamb and the stop molding is nailed to the side surface within the opening. The window or door piece where items are hinged.
The legs of the fireplace surround, flanking the grate often styled as columns or pilasters.
