Shorthand for Basic Rate Interface. This service provides two 56 or 64 kbps (kilobits per second) "B", or bearer, channels and one "D", or data, channel for the purposes of making a video call. These BRI lines are often purchased in groups of 3, allowing the customer to make video calls at a line speed of 384 kbps, the default standard on the IVN. BRI service is available through some public telephone companies and the IVN.
