Insurance Marketplace Standards Association. In the United States, an independent, voluntary association of insurance companies formed to promote high ethical standards in advertising, sales, and service of individual life insurance and annuity products. IMSA's program incorporates a set of ethical principles, a code of ethics, and a program of self-assessment and independent assessment that enables insurance companies to monitor their own compliance with regulatory requirements.
