Abbreviation for International Electro-technical Commission. This organization is associated with equipment used internationally.
International Electro-technical Commission. The body that has responsibility for developing international A/V standards. ICIA cooperates with IEC sub-committee SC-60.
International ElectroChemical Commission. A worldwide organization for standardization in the electrical and electronic fields.
International Electrical Congress and was created in 1906 in England. The IEC publishes international standards for electrical, electronic and related technologies.
Abbreviation for the International Engineering Consortium. Founded in 1944, the International Engineering Consortium is a nonprofit, public service organization sponsored by universities and engineering societies dedicated to continuing education for the U.S. electronics industry. They are responsible for organizing and establishing standards that are employed in all sorts of electronic equipment. A couple that are relevant to us are the IEC time code standard used by many DAT machines, and the IEC power cable connection, which is the most common type of removable power cord connector used in our industry.
Advisory organization that draws up international standards in the electrotechnical field.
International Electro-technical Commission Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). A membership organization, including engineers, scientists and students in electronics and allied fields, that is involved with setting standards for the computer and communications field.

Independent Electoral Commission. The institution set up by the Constitution that is responsible for organising elections and making sure that the elections are free and fair.
International Electrotechnical Commission (also CEI).

independent ethics committee. An independent body (a review board or a committee, institutional, regional, national, or supranational) constituted of medical/ scientific professionals and non-scientific members, whose responsibility it is to ensure the protection of the rights, safety, and well-being of human subjects involved in a trial and to provide public assurance of that protection by, among other things, reviewing and approving/providing favorable opinion on, the trial protocol, the suitability of the investigator(s), facilities, and the methods and material to be used in obtaining and documenting informed consent of the trial subjects. The legal status, composition, function, operations, and regulatory requirements pertaining to independent ethics committees may differ among countries, but should allow the independent ethics committee to act in agreement with GCP as described in the [ICH] guideline. Professional organization whose activities include the development of communications and network standards. IEEE LAN standards are the predominant LAN standards today.
