A foreign national allowed to enter a country forwork for a specified period of time, but not take up permanent residence in that country. There are numerous guest worker visa programs, such as the H1-B visa, a temporary work permit for professional positions (those that require a bachelor's degree or equivalent) that allows foreign nationals to live and work in the United States for up to six years; the H2-A program, aimed at agricultural workers working in seasonal jobs; and the H2-B program, for nonprofessional jobs lasting less than one year.
