Coarse grained plutonic rock, similar to granite but with less quartz and more dark minerals.
A coarsely crystalline, igneous rock intermediate in color and composition between granite and gabbro.
An intrusive igneous rock similar to granite, but contains more plagioclase than potassium feldspar. more details...
a plutonic rock consisting of quartz, calcic oligoclase or andesine and orthoclase with biotite, hornblende or pyroxene as mafic constituents
Plutonic rock consisting of potassium felspar, quartz, plagioclase, biotite and hornblende. Granodiorite is an intermediate between quartz, monzonite and quartz diorite.
a light colored igneous rock similar to granite but with slightly different composition/mineral content
A group of coarse-grained plutonic rocks intermediate in composition between quartz diorite and quartz monzonite (U.S.). It typically contains quartz, feldspars, the mica biotite, and amphiboles.
Plagioclase (Sodium/Calcium) feldspar greater than 2/3 total feldspar, quartz greater than 10
Igneous plutonic rock, less felsic than granite, typically light in color; rough plutonic equivalent of dacite.
granular plutonic, leucocratic rock composed of quartz, feldspatrs, micas, amphibole.
A type of granitic* rock consisting of mostly crystalline quartz and plagioclase feldspar.
An intrusive rock like granite but containing a high proportion of plagioclase feldspar and mafic minerals
Granodiorite (IPA: ) is an intrusive igneous rock similar to granite, but contains more plagioclase than potassium feldspar. It usually contains abundant biotite mica and hornblende, giving it a darker appearance than true granite. Mica may be present in well-formed hexagonal crystals, and hornblende may appear as needle-like crystals.
