The state of being genetically variable, i.e. having more than one genetic state or allele at each gene locus. Such genetically variable populations are referred to as polymorphic.
the measure of variation in genetic makeup between individuals in a population; high levels of genetic variability are better than low levels within a population
the natural variation between plants (or animals) of the same species that causes differences in height, colour or yield, for example
Genetic variability is the diversity of genetic material (genes) among and within individuals of a given species or population which results from variations in alleles (genes) and/or their recombinations from a reproductive standpoint. A low degree of genetic variation within a population or species may result in inbreeding depression and/or an inability to adapt to changing environmental conditions, which could lead to a population crash.
Genetic variability: The amount by which individuals in a population differ from one another due to their genes, rather than their environment. The study of genetic variability is that of population genetics.
