In the entertainment world "House" is a collective term for the audience at a theatre, cinema, etc. Hence an FOH console will be situated “audience-side" of the stage. A "house" PA system refers to the main audio system responsible for the principal sound in the venue.
Front of House: anything which happens on the audience side of the curtain is said to happen "front of house". The term "the house" is used to mean either the auditorium, or the audience ("We had a good house tonight"), or even the theatre itself.
Front-Of-House. Generally refers to the audience area, or that part of a venue not comprising the stage or backstage areas.
Front of House. the components of a PA that are directed toward the audience, as opposed to the back of the house or monitor system.
FRONT OF HOUSE. 1) Every part of the theatre in front of the pros arch. Includes foyer areas open to the general public. 2) All lanterns which are on the audience side of the proscenium and are focussed towards the stage.
Common abbreviation for Front of House, the portion of a sound reinforcement system dedicated to producing sound for the audience. When the term is used by itself, as in "FOH," rather than "FOH power," it generally refers to either the FOH system in its entirety, the main mixing console, or that console's location.
