Definitions for "Fixed Guideway"
A mass transportation facility using and occupying a separate right-of-way or rail for the exclusive use of mass transportation vehicles or other high occupancy vehicles.
A system of vehicles that can operate only on its own guideway constructed for that purpose (i.e., rapid rail, light rail). Federal usage in funding legislation also includes exclusive "right-of-way" bus operations, trolley buses and ferryboats as "fixed guideway" transit.
A fixed facility for the operation of transit vehicles, with a vehicle guidance system such as rails or beams.
