A term that describes certain benign changes in the breast; also called fibrocystic disease. Symptoms of this condition are breast swelling or pain. The breasts often feel lumpy or nodular. Because these signs sometimes mimic breast cancer, diagnostic mammogram or ultrasound or even a biopsy may be needed to show that there is no cancer.
