Definitions for "Explosimeter"
fuel gas detector that measures the % L.E.L. in a given atmosphere sample; hence, they are primarily concerned with the potential of an explosive event. The units are always certified to some norm as being explosion proof.
A device that detects and measures the presence of gas or vapor in an explosive atmosphere. See Explosive.
An explosimeter is a device which is used to measure the amount of combustible gases present in a sample. The device operates on the principle of resistance proportional to heat -- a wire is heated, and a sample of the gas is introduced to the hot wire. Combustible gases burn in the presence of the hot wire, thus increasing the resistance and disturbing a Wheatstone bridge, which gives the reading.
