This term does not refer to the property of a dead person, nor to a housing estate or neighborhood. It is used, rather, for a permanent home, often with a family association, especially if the article uses the terminology. It can be distinguished from Country House in that it is a primary residence and Plantation in that it was not built for an agricultural administrative purpose, though some plantations may also be estates.
