The average rate at which temperature declines with increasing altitude in the troposphere.
the measured lapse rate (rate of decrease in temperature with height) in the atmosphere surrounding a rising bubble of air. It usually is around 3-4 degrees Fahrenheit per thousand feet.
( ELR) The rate of air temperature increase or decrease with altitude. The average ELR in the troposphere is an air temperature decrease of 6.5° Celsius per 1000 meters rise in elevation.
