This procedure begins in the same fashion as vaginal ultrasound. Patients receive small doses of medication given intravenously to relax them. In addition, a local anesthetic will be used in the vagina. The vagina will be cleansed to minimize the risk of infection. The vaginal transducer is inserted into the vagina and the eggs are retrieved with a needle inserted through the vaginal wall under the guidance of ultrasound. No abdominal incisions are required.
Procedure for obtaining eggs (oocytes), involving the passing of a needle into a mature (or preovulatory follicle, either directly at laparoscopy or (more usually) via the vagina guided by transvaginal ultrasound.
the second stage of in vitro fertilization, in which eggs are collected from the ovaries for fertilization.
a minor surgical procedure performed by inserting a needle through the upper vaginal wall directly into the ovary
The procedure in which eggs are obtained by a needle, from ovarian follicles, removing the fluid and the egg by suction. Also called oocyte aspiration.
Procedure using ultrasound to guide a needle through the vagina into the ovary to collect eggs. Usually performed under sedation for the safety and comfort of our patients
A procedure used to remove eggs from the ovaries' follicles for use in in vitro fertilization (IVF). close window
A procedure used to obtain eggs from ovarian follicles for use in in vitro fertilisation. The procedure may be performed during laparoscopy or through the vagina by using a needle and ultrasound to locate the follicle in the ovary.
A surgical procedure to collectthe eggs contained in the ovarian follicles.
A procedure to collect the eggs contained in the ovarian follicles.
The process of introducing a long needle through the vagina and into the ovaries to aspirate the follicles that contain the eggs. It is done under ultrasound guidance. The ovaries are visualized on the ultrasound screen and the needle, which is aspirated with gentle suction. The aspirated fluid is sent to the embryologist who examines it and isolates the egg. The procedure is done under heavy sedation and is therefore painless. It takes about 20 minutes to complete and the patient is discharged one hour later. The patient is not allowed to drive because of slight drowsiness for a few hours after the procedure. Complications are very rare and include bleeding and infection.
Using a needle to puncture the wall of the vagina while a patient is under sedation, the physician enters the ovaries to retrieve the ripened eggs as part of in vitro fertilization.
Outpatient procedure by which the eggs are harvested from the female's ovaries under heavy sedation utilizing transvaginal ultrasound.
Retrieval of eggs from the ovary. See also Aspiration.
A surgical procedure to procure eggs from follicles for use in IVF/GIFT cycle or otherwise. Usually involves laparoscopy.
The process whereby a physician removes a woman’s eggs from her ovarian follicles.
The retrieval of eggs from the ovaries with a needle, which the physician guides through the vaginal wall with the aid of ultrasound.
The egg is removed from the ovary by one of two methods. One uses an ultrasound probe and a suction device inserted through the vagina. The other, laparoscopy, uses a thin, optical tube inserted through an incision near the navel. The egg is removed by suction.
A procedure used to obtain eggs from ovarian follicles for use in several ARTs including in vitro fertilization, GIFT, and ZIFT. The procedure may be performed during laparoscopy or by using a long needle and ultrasound to locate the follicle in the ovary.
a procedure used to collect eggs. The eggs are located with a transducer, removed with a small needle and placed into a culture dish.
An IVF procedure, performed under light intravenous sedation, in which mature eggs are removed from the ovary by a needle placed through the vaginal wall.
