Definitions for "Dubstar"
Dubstar was a British dance-pop act formed by Sarah Blackwood, Steve Hillier and Chris Wilkie. They formed in 1993 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne when producer Graeme Robinson discovered the band playing to fifteen people in a Newcastle club as 'The Joans' (a pun on 'The Smiths') a name the band had used since before Blackwood joined the group. Robinson was appointed manager, suggested changing the band's name from 'The Joans' to 'Dubstar' and dramatically reworked Steve Hillier's songs as he recorded the tracks which would comprise the group's best-selling debut album in his Darlington based studio.
