After a foul, a team is awarded a free kick, in most cases, a direct free kick. A direct kick can result in a goal; a player can use the kick to take a shot directly on the goal and score. See: free kick.
A free kick awarded when a player kicks, trips, charges, jumps at, strikes or holds an opponent or handles the ball with his hand. The defending team must stand at least 10 yards away from the ball before the kick. The kick is taken from the point of the infraction, and the designated player taking the kick may score directly without another player having to touch the ball.
