connector - DIN is an abbreviation for eutshe ndustrie orm. The DIN connector is a multiple pin connector conforming to the specification of the German national standards organization. On most IBM-compatible microcomputers, 5-pin DIN connectors are used to connect the keyboard to the motherboard of the system unit. An 8-pin DIN connector is used as the serial port connector on Macintosh computers. IBM PS/2 computers use a 6-pin DW connector to connect the keyboard and the pointing device.
Abbreviation for the standards institution of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Acronym for Deutsch Industrie Norm. Also see mini DIN.
(Deutsche Industrie Normen) The German industrial standard for rating film speed. This scale indicates a doubling of speed by an increase of 3 in the rating; a rather complicated standard, it fell from widespread use during the early 'Seventies' although the German manufacturer Agfa still carried on using the system for film identification until more recently. (see ISO)
Acronym for Deutsche Industrie Normal, a European standards organization.
Stand for Deutsche Industrie Normen or German industrial standards. DIN horsepower, a German rating similar to SAE net horsepower is the output of a fully equipped engine fitted with all the normal accessories.
These round multipin connectors, developed in Europe in the 1960s, show up on some older imported audio equipment and on U.S.-made components aimed at an international market. Generally hated by North American audiophiles. Still used in the odd piece of audio gear as well as in a good deal of car stereo equipment. The name stands for Deutsche Industrie Normen, the German standards setting body. S-video connections are made with miniature DIN plugs and jacks.
Deutsche Industrial Norms, a widely-recognized German standard for engineering units.
Deutsches Institut fur Normung (Germany)
Deutsches Institut fur Normungt (German standardisation authority)
Deutsche Institüt für Normung, the German Institute for Standards. Like the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the DIN has defined conditions and correction factors to generate standard engine ratings. Basically, DIN output is almost identical to "SAE net" output (the DIN standard uses ~2.5% higher ambient pressure and ~1.7% lower ambient temperature). More info is in the Bosch Automotive Handbook.
Deutsche Industrie Normen (German industrial standards organization). Sets standards for many things, among them alpine ski binding release settings and boot soles. (One DIN standard relates to the shape of boots as they fit into bindings.) The term "DIN" is typically used to refer to the binding release values when relating to alpine skiing.
Deutsche Industrial Norms, a German agency that sets engineering standards.
Deutsche Industrie Normung
An abbreviation for Deutsches Institut für Normung, the German standards body. In reference to fasteners DIN indicates fasteners that conform to a specific metric standard (will be followed by the standard number).
Deutsche Industrie-Normen. Germany’s standard.
Deutsche Industrie Norm. German national standards organization.
See Deutsche Industrie Norm.
This stands for Deutsche Industrie Norm (German Industry Standard), which provides international standards for measuring engine power, torque, etc.
German Standards Institute, registered association
Deutsche Industrie Norm. These norms are generaly used in the European countries.
Acronym for Deutsche Industrie Norm.
Abbreviation for Deutsche Industrie Norm and describes a large family of product standards. For film emulsions, the DIN System is the logarithmic method of determining emulsion speeds developed by the German standards organization Deutscher Normenausschuss. The emulsion speed is doubled for each increase of three in the DIN speed value.
Deutsche Industrie Norm connector
Deutsche Industrie Normenausschussan; association that sets standards for the electronics industry.
Deutsche Industrie Norm (German Standards Organization). Similar to our ISO. Older cameras can be found with an ASA-DIN converter so that European films rated in DIN could be used. See: ISO, and ASA.
The standards valid in Germany for the production of veneer. The standard thicknesses are laid down therein.
Deutsche Industrie Normen. German (European) industrial standards. DIN size refers to the stereo size that fits most European automobiles.
Deutsche Institut fuer Normung
An industry standard generally applied to the most common chassis size of dash mount head units. This is an acronym for Deutsche Industrie Normen.
Deutsche Industrie Norm. Older model of rating film speed.
Deutsche Koordinierungsausschuss
A set of German standards recognized throughout the world. The 1/8 DIN standard for panel meters specifies an outer bezel dimension of 96 x 48 mm and a panel cutout of 92 x 45 mm.
This is an acronym used for the Deutsches Institut fur Normung (German Standardization Institute).
Any of the round plugin connectors on a computer. Mostly refers to keyboard and mouse plugs. The old PC/XT and early AT mobo's used a large 5 pin DIN. Since the Pentium, mobo's use a 6 pin mini-DIN (aka: PS/2). After years of wondering why round plugs were called DIN, I finally found out. It stands for - Deutsche Industrie Norm (German Industrial Norm). This is the committee that sets the German dimensional standards.
A standard from the Deutsche Institut fur Normung. DIN 477 recommends cylinder valve outlet connections for specific gas services based upon safety considerations.
German standards system that expressed a film speed rating by a number followed by a degrees sign ( ° ). DIN derives its name from the initials of the Deutsche Industrie Normen or Deutsche Industries Norm. The DIN system has been replaced by the more universal ISO system.
for Video, see Connectors. for Microscopes, an industry standard for the design of microscope objectives and eyepieces. DIN standard microscopes have a 160mm tube length.
"Deutsches Institut für Normung" (German Standardization Institute). GHI JKL MNO PQRS TUV WXYZ
A system that defines concepts, measurements and application in the industrial sector. Certain DIN norms have been developed for offset print.
German National Standards Organisation
Deutsche Industrie Norm A DIN rail is a standardized 35 mm wide metal rail with hat-shaped cross section. It is widely used, especially in Europe, for mounting circuit breakers and industrial control equipment inside equipment racks.
Deutsche Industrie-Norm; German standard for electronic connections which can have 3-6 pins depending on their use. All DIN plugs have the same outer dimensions and appearance
Deutsche Industrie Norm - The national standard for Germany.
Deutsches Institut für Normung (Germany)
German Institute for Standardization.
It stands for "Deutsche Industrie Norm". It's an international standard of measurement. The Observer objectives conform to this standard.
An acronyme for Deutsche Industrie Normen, an industry standard applied to the most common chassis size of dash mounted head units. This approximately 2” by 7”.
(Deutsches Institut für Normung, or German Institute for Standardisation). Valve and regulator fittings featuring the "captured o-ring" design whereby the regulator is screwed into the cylinder valve. This is primarily used on the continent and for pressures exceeding 232 Bar.
German Industrial Standards. In audio, the German standard of plugs, sockets, performance ratings, etc.
n. Deutsche Industrie Norm. A logarithmic series of numbers that the denotes the sensitivity of a film. DIN has been supplanted by ISO for film speed, although the logarithmic sequence has been incorporated into the ISO sequence for film and digital sensor speed. This is because the logarithmic DIN sequence is useful for calculations relating to film speeds. See ISO for more information. _______________________________________________________

See Deutsche Industrial Norm.
A German standards organization similar to UL in the United States, which creates standards and specifications for technical and non-technical products/systems. DIN has two meanings: Deutsches Institut Für Normung, which is the actual standards institute. Deutsche Industrie Norm, the name of the standards.
Deutsche Industrie Norm (German Industrial Standard)
DIN, an acronym for the German Deutsches Institut für Normung (German Industrial Standard), and the name of an increasingly large sans-serif typeface family. In 1936 the German Standard Committee selected DIN 1451 as the standard typeface for use in the areas of engineering, technology, traffic, administration and business. Among the same committees adopted recommendations was an early precursor to the typographic grid.
