An exporter agrees to safely transport the goods to the "frontier," which is a point before the actual customs border of the importing country. Commonly used when goods are shipped by road or rail.
The exporter fulfils his obligations by delivering the goods at the border of the country of destination, but before the "customs border", i.e. without undertaking the customs clearance formalities. The exporter/seller's obligations are met when the goods arrive at the frontier, but before they reach the "customs border" of the importing country named in the sales contract. The expression is commonly used when goods are carried by road or rail.
The seller fulfills his obligation to deliver when the goods have been made available, cleared for export, at the named point and place at the frontier, but before the customs border of the adjoining, country.
Delivered At Frontier (DAF) is an Incoterm. It can be used when the goods are transported by rail and road. The seller pays for transportation to the named place of delivery at the frontier.
