a feeling of confusion, distress, and sometimes depression that can result from the psychological stress that commonly occurs during the first weeks or months of a total cultural emersion in an alien society. Until the new culture becomes familiar and comfortable, it is common to have difficulty in communicating and to make frustrating mistakes. This is usually compounded by feelings of homesickness. These feelings can be emotionally debilitating. However, culture shock eventually passes for most people. See future shock.

Anxiety relating to disorientation from exposure to a new cultureā (Gass & Selinker, 1994:237)
Culture shock is a term used to describe the anxiety and feelings (of surprise, disorientation, confusion, etc.) felt when people have to operate within an entirely different culture or social environment, such as a different country.
Culture Shock was an anarcho-punk / ska punk band formed in Warminster, Wiltshire, UK, in 1986 by Dick Lucas, previously of the Subhumans. Over their three year history the band played hundreds of gigs, including frequent appearances at free festivals, and released three studio albums on the Bluurg label. Dick's lyrics were mostly concerned with social and political issues, from cruelty to animals, Northern Ireland, war, and social alienation, but were far from angry rants, often finding a positive and empowering perspective.
