Definitions for "Critical Area"
All lands and waters defined in Section 8-1807 of the Natural Resources Article, Annotated Code of Maryland. They include: all waters of, and lands under the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries to the head of tide as indicated on the State Wetlands maps, and all State and private wetlands designated under Title 9 of the Natural Resources Article, Annotated Code of Maryland; all land and water areas within 1000 feet beyond the landward boundaries of State and Private wetlands and the heads of tides designated under Title 9 of the Natural Resources Article, Annotated Code of Maryland.
Any of those areas that are subject to natural hazards or those land features that support unique, fragile or valuable natural resources including fishes, wildlife and other organisms and their habitat and such resources that carry, hold or purify water in their natural state. Critical areas include: aquatic area, coal mine hazard area, critical aquifer recharge area, erosion hazard area, flood hazard area, landslide hazard area, seismic hazard area, steep slope hazard area, volcanic hazard area, wetlands, wildlife habitat conservation area, and wildlife habitat network.
Area or source of nonpoint source pollutants identified in the project area as having the most significant impact on the impaired use of the receiving waters.
