An indication of how well a test or scale predicts another related characteristic, ideally a "gold standard" if one exists.
The ability of a test or assessment instrument to predict the behavior it is designed to predict (syn. empirical validity). See also criterion, validity.
In psychometrics, criterion-related validity is a measure of how well one variable or set of variables predicts an outcome based on information from other variables. Criteria or concrete validity is the extent to which the measures are demonstrably related to concrete criteria in the "real" world. This type of validity is often divided into "concurrent" and "predictive" subtypes.
