A broad ice sheet resting on a plain or plateau and spreading outward from a central névé, or region of accumulation.
A continuous, thick glacier covering more than 50,000 km2 and moving independently of minor topographic features. (Compare Valley glacier.)
A thick ice sheet covering large parts of a continent. Present-day examples are found in Greenland and Antarctica.
