When you take your papers to the courthouse for filing, you will take the original of each document and at least two copies of each document with you. You will present the originals and all copies to the filing clerk who will stamp the originals, take your money, and stamp your copies in the upper right corner with something like "Original filed July 1, 1999, Los Angeles County Superior Court" and hand the copies back to you. The process of stamping the copies is called "conforming."
