Definitions for "Climber"
Keywords:  vine, sport, roses, shrub, arbours
A plant that climbs.
Roses that grow to more than 7 or 8 ft in height are usually treated as climbers. They might be fanned out against a wall or fence or trained on a pillar. The process involves fastening it loosely to whatever structure the rose is to climb, and thinning the rose so that not too many canes compete for the same space. This usually results in fewer canes, so a rose that might grow to 7 feet as a shrub will often grow a little larger, perhaps 10 ft as a climber. Some roses are bred climbers, other climbers are sports of shorter roses
Climbers are plants that climb on their own, using tendrils or some other method (such as the adventitious roots known as holdfasts) to secure themselves to objects. Climbers are often supplied with arbours upon which to climb. Vines are subdivided into the categories of climbers and creepers.
