The average number of children in any given classroom. Individual districts were asked to provide numbers broken down by grade levels. About half the districts chose not to provide that information. These numbers reflect the number of students divided by the number of certified teachers, based on school year data from the state. The number of students divided by certified staff working in the building determines staff ratio. This includes positions such as Title I teachers and reading recovery teachers, who help students who have fallen behind.
