Another name for the records of births, marriage, and death generated by civil authorities.
The Government registration of all births, deaths, and marriages. Each State and Territory of Australia has its own commencement dates. Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia followed the British system of civil registration, whereas Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and the Territories followed the more useful Archer system.
Records of birth, death and marriage kept by the civil authorities. Birth, death and marriage events are, by law, required to be registered with the appropriate governmental body. See also Parish Records.
