CD-ROM extended architecture. Hybrid CD-ROM permitting interleaved audio and video data
CD-ROM extended architecture. A mode 2,multi-session disk where data is on one session and audio/video on another(CD-Extra,Mixed-Mode).
CD-ROM tended rchitecture standard of Philips/Sony that incorporates a subheader to support interleaving of audio, graphics, video and computer data using CD- ROM XA Mode 2/Form 1 and CD-ROM XA Mode 2/Form 2 sectors. CD-ROM XA EDC and ECC structures differ from those of CD-ROM Mode 2.
XA stands for eXtended Architecture and is a standard for CD-ROM in which a number of options from CD-i have been added. These include audio compression (ADPCM), multi-channel audio (max. 16), file interleaving, user data (2336 Bytes/ sector), image compression capability, etc. A CD-ROM XA disc is a Mode 2 disc, in which the data is located in Form 1 (2048 Bytes/sector) or Form 2 (2336 Bytes/sector) sectors.

CD-ROM Extended Architecture: a hybrid format, promoted by Sony and Microsoft, that combines CD-ROM and CD-i capabilities. The extension adds ADPCM audio to permit the interleaving of sound and video data to animation and with sound synchronisation. It is an essential component of Microsoft's plan for multimedia computers and also the physical format for Kodak's Photo CD format.
Shortened form for Compact Disc–Extended Architecture. A standard that originated from Yellow Book enhancements to improve the playback of different data types and to support multisession operation. Photo CDs employ this physical format.
CD-ROM extended architecture. A hybrid version of CD allowing interleaved audio and video.
CD-ROM Extended Architecture. An extension to the Yellow Book, this format is used for computer data, compressed audio, graphics and video. It does not contain additional EDC (Error Detection Code) and ECC (Error Correction Code), therefore giving the user an additional 13% percent more data than the Yellow Book - Mode 1 format.
"XA" stands for Extended Architecture. CD-ROM XA is an extension of the Yellow Book standard, generally consistent with the ISO 9660 logical format but designed to add better audio and video capabilities (taken from the CD-I standard) so that CD-ROM can more easily be used for multimedia applications. CD-ROM XA is also the physical format for Photo CD discs.
A subset of the CD-ROM standard with a slightly different sector size used for multi-session CD-ROM.
"XA" stands for Extended Architecture. CD-ROM XA is an extension of the Yellow Book standard, generally consistent with the ISO 9660 logical format but designed to add better audio and video capabilities (taken from the CD-I standard) so that CD-ROM could more easily be used for multimedia applications. CD-ROM XAwas abandoned as an independent multimedia format, but Photo CD discs are written in the CD-ROM XA physical format.
Compact Disc-Read Only Memory Extended Architecture. An extension to the Yellow Book specification that was proposed by Sony, Philips, and Microsoft® to enhance the multimedia capabilities of CD-ROMs. XA is also used as a bridge between CD-i players and CD-ROM drives. Kodak's PhotoCD is an example of a CD-ROM XA format.
Compact Disc-Read Only Memory Extended Architecture. An extension of the Yellow Book standards that adds improved audio and video capabilities to CD-ROMs. Although no longer used as an independent format, CD-ROM XA is still used for Photo CDs.
