An indignity offered to God in words, writing, or signs; impiously irreverent words or signs addressed to, or used in reference to, God; speaking evil of God; also, the act of claiming the attributes or prerogatives of deity.
Speaking rudely to/about the IPU (see Invisible Pink Unicorn). Offensive language used against a god, made acceptable when Jesus did it (see Matthew 26:65). A "crime" committed by one who insults or shows disrespect to an omnipotent deity who nevertheless requires a human law to protect Him or Her from hurt feelings. Curiously, like the tree falling in the forest, it appears that blasphemy can only occur when a religious zealot is present to hear it. Nevertheless, blasphemy remains a criminal offence in the United Kingdom (last prosecution late 1970s - but fundy groups constantly threaten new ones) and in many Islamic countries, where such offences can incur the death penalty, and where questioning even the tiniest aspect of Islam is considered blasphemous.
Words that are spoken against God.
Spoken or written words that insult a divine power.
Any speech, writing, or action that is seen as offensive or insulting to one's god/s. In antiquity, many Jews thought it blasphemous to speak or write the very name of God, substituting instead the tetragrammaton. In the New Testament, Jesus is often charged with blasphemy for appearing to claim divine authority for himself; early Christians were seen as blasphemous by Jews for considering Jesus, a crucified Galillean peasant, to be the incarnation of Yahweh.
blasphemous language (expressing disrespect for God or for something sacred)
blasphemous behavior; the act of depriving something of its sacred character; "desecration of the Holy Sabbath"
To speak lightly or carelessly of God. An offense punishable in the time of the Hebrew Scriptures by stoning (Lev. 24:10-16). Pronunciation of the divine name (יהוה) was, during certain periods of Jewish history, considered blasphemy.
An expression of contempt for God.
Blasphemy, denotes an enemy creeping into your life, who under assumed friendship will do you great harm. To dream you are cursing yourself, means evil fortune. To dream you are cursed by others, signifies relief through affection and prosperity. The interpretation of this dream here given is not satisfactory. See Profanity.
Users are cautioned against profane or contemptuous, irreverent, or disrespectful content concerning God or anything divine. Do not blaspheme God .... (Exodus 22:28)
